BBC Wants Your Drama: International Playwriting Competition

Are you resident outside the UK? Would you like to win £2,500, a trip to London and have your play broadcast all over the world?

The International Playwriting Competition organised by the BBC World Service is a global search for two of the world's best new radio plays. The two winning plays will be broadcast on the World Service. The competition is open to anyone resident outside Britain. Plays must be sixty-minute radio dramas with up to six characters, and there are two categories: one for writers whose mother tongue is English and one for writers for whom English is their second language.

The two winners will be invited to London, where they will see their play made into a full radio production which will subsequently be broadcast on the BBC World Service. The two winners will also each receive a prize of £2,500. There are also prizes for the runners-up.

Plays must be in English, unpublished works and must not have been previously produced in any medium. Whether you are an experienced writer, a newcomer or somewhere in between, we want to hear from you.

The biennial International Radio Playwriting Competition is run by the BBC World Service and the British Council and is now in its twelfth year.

The closing date for applications will be Thursday, March 31st, 2011.
